Cut through the trapezius muscle near its attachment to the spinous processes and reflect it laterally. Begin the incision at the level of T 12 and proceed superiorly to the level of the external occipital protuberance (inion). As the trapezius muscle is reflected, detach it from the spine and acromion processes of the scapula  .Links and References:
