The axillary nerve and posterior humeral circumflex artery pass through a four-sided space, called the quadrangular space. Define the borders of the quadrangular space:

superior - the inferior border of teres minor muscle,
inferior - the superior border of teres major muscle,
medial - the long head of triceps brachii muscle, and
lateral - the surgical neck of the humerus.

In fractures of the surgical neck of the humerus, the axillary nerve is prone to injury because it is closely associated with the bone.
