The pectoral region includes the anterior and part of the lateral chest wall. The skin of the anterior chest wall will be reflected to reveal the underlying muscles that move the upper extremity. By fixing the upper extremities, some of these muscles also aid in respiration (e.g. pectoralis major and minor muscles). The principle muscles of the region are: the pectoralis major muscle, pectoralis minor muscle, subclavius muscle, and serratus anterior muscle. As the dissection progresses, the blood supply, lymphatics, and innervation of this region will also be considered. |
