Reflect the pectoralis minor muscle superiorly to expose the vessels and nerves which lie deep to it.
The axillary artery and vein and the major components of the brachial plexus are surrounded by a connective tissue investment called the axillary sheath [the probe contacts the intact axillary sheath which passes through the axilla; the forceps (top) indicate the thoracoacromial artery].Links and References:
