Identify the superficial veins of the arm and forearm. The two principal veins of the upper extremity are the basilic vein and the cephalic vein. These two veins arise from the dorsal venous arch of the hand. The cephalic vein begins on the lateral (radial) side of the hand. The basilic vein begins on the medial (ulnar) side of the hand. Both veins pass to the anterior surface of the forearm.
In front of the elbow, a region called the cubital fossa
identify the median cubital vein. It is extremely variable, but it is usually present as a connecting channel that runs upward and medially from the cephalic vein to the basilic vein.Links and References:
