The medial antebrachial cutaneous nerve, also called the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm, arises directly from the medial cord of the brachial plexus. It was dissected in Step 8 of the previous dissection. The medial antebrachial cutaneous nerve divides into an anterior branch and a posterior branch that are located on the medial aspect of the forearm.
The cutaneous nerves of the hand will be identified later when the hand is dissected.Note: Review the dermatomes of the upper extremity (Figure 6.4). Clinically, nerve injuries to peripheral nerves or injuries to spinal nerves or components of the brachial plexus may lead to specific nerve lesions, identified by specific loss of cutaneous innervation. Therefore, it is important
to understand both the distribution of peripheral nerves and the dermatomes of the upper extremities.
