The palmar aponeurosis has four longitudinal bands. Each of these bands is associated with a finger. Finally, identify the plain palmaris brevis muscle , which inserts into the fascia covering the hypothenar muscles, the intrinsic muscles of the little finger. The palmaris brevis muscle, arises from the medial aspect of the palmar aponeurosis.

Identify the thenar muscles, the intrinsic muscles of the thumb, that are located at the base of the thumb lateral to the palmar aponeurosis.
