Identify the ulnar nerve [probe]. It has two branches in the hand. The superficial branch of the ulnar nerve is sensory and supplies the skin of the fifth digit and medial part of the fourth digit. The deep branch of the ulnar nerve has motor fibers and passes deep into the hand between the origins of the hypothenar muscles. The extent of this deep branch will be seen later in the dissection.
