Now, the distal attachments of the tendons of the extrinsic flexor muscles will be studied. First, return the flexor tendons of the forearm to their original position, and then remove the skin and underlying fascia from the palmar surface of the middle and ring fingers.

The tendons of the flexor digitorum profundus muscle and flexor digitorum superficialis muscle are held in place by the fibrous digital sheath . Cut and reflect the sheaths to free the long flexor tendons. Identify the tendon of flexor digitorum profundus muscle which passes through the Y-shaped insertion of the tendon of flexor digitorum superficialis muscle.

Near the attachments of the tendons, folds of connective tissue called vinculae

convey blood vessels to the tendons.
