The lateral muscles of this superficial extensor group attach to the lateral epicondyle of the humerus (see a textbook for a precise description of the attachments).

Observe that there are intertendinous connections between the tendons of the extensor digitorum muscle just proximal to the extensor expansions. These connections limit the independence of the movements of the adjacent fingers (Figure 9.3).
