The rectus femoris muscle originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine it is the only part of the quadriceps femoris muscle that crosses the hip joint. The rectus femoris muscle assists in flexion at the hip joint. All four parts of the quadriceps femoris muscle insert into the quadriceps (or patellar) tendon and thus function in the extension of the knee. Distal to the patella, identify the patellar ligament that inserts into the tuberosity of the tibia. Links and References: |
