Near the lateral border of the sternum, the pleura reflects from the surface of the costal cartilages onto the structures that are located between the lungs. The anatomical compartment between the pleural cavities is called the mediastinum. The parietal pleura, which forms the lateral border of the mediastinum, is called mediastinal pleura. In each pleural cavity, identify the anterior costomediastinal recess [area beneath the pointer] formed by the reflection between the costal pleura and the mediastinal pleura. Links and References: |
