Identify the right coronary artery [probe] [cross-section] as it arises from the ascending aorta. This vessel passes in the coronary sulcus between the right atrium and right ventricle. It gives off a branch, the right marginal artery that passes along the sternocostal margin of the heart. On the posterior surface of the heart the right coronary artery usually gives a branch, the posterior interventricular artery, that descends in the posterior interventricular groove toward the apex of the heart. In some individuals, the posterior interventricular artery is a branch of the
