Identify the boundaries of the middle mediastinum . It is bounded both anteriorly and posteriorly by the fibrous and serous parietal layers of the pericardium. Superiorly, its boundary is defined as the horizontal plane through the sternal angle (of Louis) and the intervertebral disc T4/T5. Inferiorly, it extends as far as the diaphragm.
