Identify the roots of the greater splanchnic nerve. These roots convey primarily preganglionic sympathetic fibers from the sympathetic trunk. The roots arise from spinal nerve levels T5-T9 and provide autonomic innervation to abdominal viscera. Roots of the lesser splanchnic nerve may also be visible. These roots carry predominantly preganglionic fibers from the sympathetic trunk at spinal nerve levels T10-T11. The least splanchnic nerve arises from the sympathetic trunk at spinal nerve level T12. The least splanchnic nerve is not seen generally due to the convexity of the diaphragm. Links and References: |
