Two muscles of mastication can be seen at this time; the temporalis muscle, and the masseter muscle [different specimen ]. The temporalis muscle originates from the temporal fossa and inserts onto the coronoid process of the mandible, which cannot be seen at this time. The masseter muscle originates from the zygomatic arch and inserts onto the angle of the mandible.
