The inferior root of the ansa cervicalis (descendens cervicalis) is composed of fibers of the second and third cervical spinal nerves. The inferior root descends from behind the internal jugular vein to join the superior root. Dissect out the entire ansa cervicalis [probe indicates superior root; forceps hold inferior root; different specimen], identify both roots, and trace its branches to the infrahyoid muscles. The infrahyoid muscles include the thyrohyoid, sternothyroid, sternohyoid, and omohyoid muscles.Links and References: |
