Define the borders of the masseter muscle [frontal section]. It arises from the zygomatic arch and inserts onto the angle of the mandible. Detach the masseter muscle from the zygomatic arch. As the masseter muscle is reflected inferiorly, identify the nerve and vessels to the masseter muscle that pass through the mandibular notch and enter the deep surface of the masseter muscle. Cut the nerve and vessels, and complete the reflection of the masseter muscle towards its attachment to the angle of the mandible.
