Identify the auriculotemporal nerve which has two roots that encircle the middle meningeal artery. Follow the auriculotemporal nerve laterally. It conveys sensory fibers from the skin of the temporal region and postganglionic parasympathetic fibers from the otic ganglion to the parotid gland. The otic ganglion is located near the main trunk of the mandibular nerve.
