Follow the inferior division of the oculomotor nerve anteriorly between the optic nerve and the lateral rectus muscle (see Figure 29.3). Next, identify the small, rounded ciliary ganglion [indicated by the tip of the upper probe] which is suspended from the branches of the ophthalmic nerve. The ciliary ganglion is a parasympathetic ganglion.
