Identify the lacrimal gland in the superolateral aspect of the orbit. The lacrimal nerve [tip of the probe] can also be seen lateral to the gland. The lacrimal nerve provides sensory innervation to this area of the face. Tears from the lacrimal gland pass into the conjunctival space, moisten the surface of the eye, and drain into the lacrimal canaliculi. For more detailed information consult an anatomy text.
