user2 of 2) The vestibular system (utricle, saccule and three semicircular ducts) function in the detection of changes in body posture and equilibrium. These structures are usually not visible at the gross level. The vestibular endorgans lie laterally and posteriorly to the internal auditory canal (see Figure 30.3). The utricle and saccule are located in the bony vestibule of the inner ear bony labyrinth.
