The pterygopalatine ganglion, is a parasympathetic ganglion. It is associated with the main trunk of the maxillary nerve. Secretomotor fibers from the ganglia supply the mucosa of the palate and nasal cavities. It also gives branches to the lacrimal gland.
Review the principal branches of the third part of the maxillary artery that originate in the pterygopalatine fossa. These branches include the posterior superior alveolar artery, sphenopalatine artery, infraorbital artery, and descending palatine artery. Each artery accompanies similarly named branches of the maxillary nerve.Links and References:
