To gain access to the inner aspect of the anterior abdominal wall, the peritoneal cavity must be opened. Make a vertical incision inside the rectus sheath from the xiphoid process inferiorly just slightly left of the linea alba to the level of the umbilicus. From that point, on both sides of the body, make a diagonal incision from the inferior extent of the first incision to the level of the anterior superior iliac spine , (Figure 36.2).Links and References:
