The lateral umbilical folds overlie the inferior epigastric vessels, which enter the rectus sheath and supply the rectus abdominis muscle.

Now, identify the paired peritoneal fossae which lie between the peritoneal folds in the lower part of the inner surface of the anterior abdominal wall (Figure 36.3):
