There are additional smaller recesses of the greater peritoneal sac on the posterior abdominal wall. These recesses are located around the duodenojejunal flexure, cecum, and the sigmoid colon. The latter recesses may be associated with potential clinical problems, such as internal herniation. For detailed description of the recesses, consult a surgical reference text.
