(2 of 2) The superior horizontal plane is located in the subcostal plane at the level L2 vertebra. The inferior horizontal plane passes through the tubercles of the iliac crest below the level of L4 vertebra. The four quadrants of the abdominal cavity are formed by a vertical plane through the linea alba, and an imaginary horizontalplane through the umbilicus on the level of L3/L4 vertebrae (Figure 37.2).
