Identify the main trunk of the superior mesenteric artery and superior mesenteric vein, which are embedded in extraperitoneal fat within the mesentery. Remove the fat around the superior mesenteric vessels. Locate the origin of the superior mesenteric artery from the abdominal aorta. It arises from the anterior aspect of the abdominal aorta, at the lower border of the L1 vertebra just below the celiac trunk and posterior to the neck of the pancreas. Follow the superior mesenteric artery distally as it passes anterior to the uncinate process of the pancreas, crosses anterior to the horizontal part of the duodenum, and enters the root at the mesentery.Links and References:
