The sphincter urethrae muscle encircles the membranous urethra and is located in the anterior part of the urogenital diaphragm. It attaches laterally to the ischiopubic rami
. The deep transverse perineal muscle is more posterior and attaches laterally to the ischiopubic rami (Figure 42.6). At the anterior border of the urogenital diaphragm locate the deep dorsal vein of the penis, which is continuous with the prostatic venous plexus (Figure 42.6).
