Identify the peritoneum and study its distribution and reflections within the pelvic cavity. Anteriorly, the peritoneum covers the apex, superior surface and part of the posterior surface of the urinary bladder. Lateral to the bladder, the peritoneum forms the paravesical fossa. Follow the peritoneal covering of the bladder posteriorly as it drops inferiorly into the space between the posterior surface of the bladder and the anterior surface of the body of the uterus. This space, the vesicouterine pouch [tip of probe lies in this space], is a slit-like space that extends inferiorly to the level of the junction of the cervix and the body of the uterus.
