(1 of 4) Examine the broad ligament which is a rectangularly shaped structure. The broad ligaments are created during embryonic development by medial movement of the paramesonephric ducts from their position on the lateral pelvic wall. Movement of the paramesonephric ducts pull a double peritoneal fold from the lateral pelvic wall to the midline of the pelvic cavity. Therefore, the broad ligament has an anterior layer and a posterior layer. Links and References:
