Identify the structures on the posterolateral wall of the pelvis:
- piriformis muscle
- pelvic portion of the sympathetic trunk
- lumbosacral trunk from the lumbar plexus which descends into the pelvis medially to the psoas major muscle
- anterior primary rami of the sacral nerves
Attempt to identify the pelvic splanchnic (parasympathetic) nerves that arise from the ventral primary rami of S2-S4 and pass to the pelvic viscera. The sacral splanchnic (sympathetic) nerves arise from the sacral ganglia of the pelvic portion of the sympathetic trunk.
