Rotate the arm medially and reflect the deltoid muscle laterally to study the muscles of the posterior compartment. It has three heads. First, identify the long head of the triceps brachii muscle and the lateral head of the triceps brachii muscle. Taking care to avoid cutting the underlying structures, sever the lateral head of the triceps brachii muscle. Now reflect the lateral head to identify the medial head of the triceps brachii muscle. Verify that the common tendon of the three heads of the triceps brachii muscle inserts into the olecranon process of the ulna.
