Turn the cadaver to the prone position and remove the skin from the posterior aspect of the lower extremities. As the superficial fascia is removed, identify the following superficial nerves of the gluteal region and posterior thigh and leg:

• superior cluneal nerves (posterior rami of L1, L2, and L3) located over the upper aspect of the gluteal region
• middle cluneal nerves (posterior rami of S1, S2, and S3) located over the medial aspect of the gluteal region
• inferior cluneal nerves (branches of the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve) located over the inferior aspect of the gluteal region
• posterior femoral cutaneous nerve , branches located along the posterior aspect of the thigh
