Before examining the muscles of the fourth layer, remove the skin and fascia from the toes, and clean the tendons of the flexor digitorum longus muscle [lower probe holds two tendons of flexor digitorum longus muscle; upper probe indicates the splitting of the tendon of the flexor digitorum brevis muscle]. Trace the tendons of the flexor digitorum longus muscle to their insertions into the terminal phalanx of each toe.
