On the mediastinal surface of each lung, locate the root of the lung [left] [right], the region where the main bronchus, vessels, and nerves pass to and from the lung. Note the relative position of the vessels and bronchii (Figure 19.5 and Figure 19.6). In general, the primary bronchus and its subdivisons, the secondary bronchii, are the most posterior in position. The pulmonary artery and its branches lies superior to the bronchii, and the pulmonary veins and their tributaries lie inferior to the bronchii.
