The serous parietal pericardium [probe] is the smooth, shiny inner surface of fibrous parietal pericardium. The two layers cannot be separated from one another. The serous visceral pericardium or epicardium is the serous layer that is intimately associated with the external surface of the heart. The two components of the serous pericardium are continuous with one another. Identify the line of reflection between them where the great vessels [probe inside pericardial sac contacts ascending aorta] join the heart. |
