Examine the left atrioventricular, or mitral, valve [probe passes through the orifice]. It is made up of two cusps [cross-section]: an anterior cusp [probe] and a posterior cusp [forceps] (Figure 20.7). These cusps are attached to the anterior papillary muscle and posterior papillary muscle by chordae tendineae .
