To better visualize the structures of the superior mediastinum (Figure 21.3), use a Stryker saw to cut through the first rib on each side approximately 2 cm lateral to the manubrium [cross-section]. Next, cut through the mid-portion of the clavicle. Retract the manubrium and the attached ends of the first rib and clavicle superiorly.
