Step 6. The Arch of Aorta and its Branches

Identify the arch of the aorta. The arch begins and ends at the level of a transverse plane through the sternal angle and the vertebral level T4/T5.

Clean the aortic arch and identify the three arteries that arise from it. They are:

brachiocephalic artery (trunk), [cross-section] arises superiorly and passes towards the right side of the neck. This artery further divides into the right common carotid artery and right subclavian artery.
left common carotid artery, [cross-section ] arises more posteriorly to the brachiocephalic artery and passes vertically into the neck.
left subclavian artery arises posterior and to the left of common carotid artery and passes to the left upper extremity.
