Next, define the borders of the temporalis muscle [different specimen] [frontal section] [cross-section]. It arises from the temporal fossa and inserts onto the coronoid process of the mandible. Detach the coronoid process from the mandible and reflect it with the temporalis muscle fibers superiorly. As the temporalis muscle is reflected superiorly, identify the deep temporal nerves and vessels which supply it from its deep surface. The deep temporal nerves and vessels may be cut to provide adequate exposure of the
infratemporal fossa.
