Cut through the neck of the mandible. Next, make a series of cuts through the ramus of the mandible and remove segments of the bone (Figure 27.2). The cuts must be made superiorly to the mandibular foramen, which is located on the medial surface of the ramus, to avoid cutting the nerve and vessels that pass into the foramen.
