Step 10. The Temporomandibular Joint

To fully expose the infratemporal fossa, cut through the lateral ligament of the temporomandibular joint and enter the mandibular fossa. Continue to cut medially through the posterior aspect of the capsule and remove the condyle of the mandible and its attached articular disc

from the mandibular fossa.

Examine the following parts of the dissected temporomandibular joint

attachment of the superior head of the lateral pterygoid muscle to the articular disc
inferior compartment of the temporomandibular joint
articular surface of the mandibular condyle.
