Next, identify the tentorium cerebelli [sagittal section], a projection of the dura mater which lies between the cerebral hemispheres and the cerebellum posteriorly. Cut the tentorium cerebelli to expose the cerebellar hemispheres and other cranial nerves. Continue to elevate the brain and cut the remaining cranial nerves as the brain is elevated from the cranial cavity:
Observe the basilar artery on the anterior surface of the brain stem as the brain is being elevated. Cut through the brain stem at the level of the foramen magnum and remove the brain.
