Dural venous sinuses are venous channels between the layers of the dura mater through which blood returns from the brain to the systemic circulation. These sinuses lie within the dura mater. With the help of the accompanying diagrams (Figure 28.3 and Figure 28.4), identify the dural venous sinuses:

• Superior sagittal sinus, [frontal section] [sagittal section]
• Inferior sagittal sinus
• Straight sinus
• Confluens of sinuses
• Transverse sinus
• Superior petrosal sinus
• Inferior petrosal sinus
• Sigmoid sinus
• Cavernous sinus
