Reflect the frontal nerve posteriorly and identify the levator palpebrae superioris muscle. Cut the levator palpebrae superioris muscle near its attachment to the upper eyelid and reflect it posteriorly. Identify the superior rectus muscle and cut it near its attachment to the eyeball. Reflect the superior rectus muscle posteriorly. The levator palpebrae superioris muscle and the superior rectus muscle are innervated by the superior division of the oculomotor nerve (Figure 29.3).
