Finally, identify the laryngopharynx [cross-section]. This region of the pharynx extends from the entrance of the larynx to the lower border of the cricoid cartilage. Identify the epiglottis and the aryepiglottic fold [probe]. Next, identify the piriform recess on the lateral sides of the larynx. This recess is bounded medially by the aryepiglottic fold, and laterally by the thyroid cartilage and the thyrohyoid membrane.
