Identify the submandibular duct that courses diagonally across the medial surface of the sublingual gland. Clean the duct and follow its course. Anteriorly, confirm that the duct opens just lateral to the frenulum. Posteriorly, it emerges from the deep portion (deep lobe) of the submandibular gland at the posterior edge of the mylohyoid muscle.
