Identify the lingual nerve [cross-section] as it enters the oral cavity. Follow the lingual nerve anteriorly as it passes inferior to (i.e., wraps around) the submandibular duct (Figure 34.3). Anteriorly, the lingual nerve gives several sensory branches to the anterior two-thirds of the tongue and sublingual region.
