In the submandibular triangle, identify the hyoglossus muscle. Upon consultation with a laboratory instructor, the stylohyoid muscle and posterior belly of the digastic muscle may be detached from the hyoid bone and reflected superiorly. Identify the hypoglossal nerve (CN XII) as it passes lateral to the hyoglossus muscle and deep to the mylohyoid muscle.
